Murder in Cheriton
Murder in Cheriton ‘an unqualified success’!
120 sleuths descended on Cheriton on Saturday 12th May 2007 for The Cheriton Players’ special production, ‘Murder in Cheriton!’.
A play with a difference, this was a village-wide 1920s murder mystery with 10 suspects (including the village bobby) located in various spots like the village green, cricket pavillion, the church porch, several front gardens and a greenhouse.
After four intensive hours of clue-collecting and interrogation (helped on by tea and cakes in the village hall), it was back to the school for cottage pie and a pint, trifle, a typically ‘Agatha Christie’ style reveal of whodunnit, followed by a grand raffle, dancing the Charleston and generally having a good time. Players played the suspects and police, others did the teas, ran the bar, cooked and served the delicious food and help put the whole thing together and take it all apart again.
All this was filmed by a film crew from Plus3 Productions who were making a series called ‘Village Voices’ for Meridian TV screened in the summer of 2007. Profits raised were in excess of £900 and went to help fund the village hall restoration, home to The Cheriton Players.
