November 2008: The Ghost Train – nominated for two Curtain Call Awards!
The Ghost Train by Arnold Ridley
12th-15th November 2008
How many people know that Arnold Ridley, mild-mannered Private Godfrey in Dad’s Army, wrote The Ghost Train which is set in the basic, cheerless waiting room at Fal Vale on the South Cornwall Joint Railway?
He penned it in the 1920s and although it appears rather dated in the 21st century it retains the charm of the days when a man had to show a sense of decency if other people weren’t to think of him as a prize ass.
A tale of spooky happenings and a haunted waiting room isn’t likely to have today’s audiences quaking with fear, but this classic certainly kept Cheriton’s audiences happy, intrigued and if not under their seats at least on the edge of them!
Cast and crew worked hard over the rehearsal period and were rewarded by a complete sell-out for every night’s performance. We received great reviews from the Hampshire Chronicle and no less than two Curtain Call Award nominations from The Daily Echo. Sadly we didn’t win, but just being nominated was a great honour.
