What happens when an epic tale has budget constraints? Daniel Veil has many things – enormous self confidence, a passion for directing, and above all, lofty ambitions – but he does not have a cast of thousands. Nor the money for a working chariot. Set in Ancient Rome, Jerusalem, Nazareth and the Mediterranean Sea and based on the novel written by General Lew Wallace of New Mexico... who knew nothing of these places! Featuring Roman Generals, Soldiers, Slaves, Wise Men, Angels, Jesus, and more. Complete with a daring Chariot Race and a terrifying Sea Battle. A cast of thousands (admittedly only 7 actors). Will Daniel Veil pull it off? This one can't be missed!
BEN HUR runs from Wednesday 18th - Saturday 21st November.
Patrick Barlow, the writer of this play parody (or spoof of the original novel) is also famous for his work with the National Theatre of Brent and for his four-person adaptation of The 39 Steps which has been staged in over 40 countries and has won many awards. The 1880 novel BEN-HUR by Lew Wallace was for many years the best selling novel in the USA. It inspired the massively successful 1959 film BEN-HUR staring Charlton Heston.
