Lashings of Ginger Beer (rehearsed reading)

Playwright Blue Apple Theatre Director Richard Conlon

Overview

As part of our series of occasional rehearsed readings, we were delighted to team up with our friends at Blue Apple Theatre for an evening's rehearsed reading, featuring actors from both Blue Apple and Cheriton at an informal evening at Cheriton Village Hall.

We had a brilliant turnout from both Cheriton and Blue Apple supporters and raised £350 for Blue Apple from the entrance fees, donations and bar takings so a huge thank you to all our friends who came along to listen as well, of course, as those who helped front of house, on the bar and to organise the evening in the first place! The comments from people afterwards were overwhelmingly positive and we certainly hope to stage a similar event in the future.

For those of you unfamiliar with Blue Apple Theatre, here is a resumé from their website:

Through producing high quality theatre, singing, dance and film we aim to challenge prejudice and transform the lives of people with a learning disability.

Blue Apple is committed to the development of integrated and progressive opportunities within the arts for people with learning disabilities to raise the ceiling of expectation and advocate for the development of a more inclusive, accessible and equal society. The increase in confidence gained through stage performances has helped Blue Apple participants to enhance their social, personal and artistic skills and achieve public recognition for their talents.”

Cheriton have a long standing relationship with this inspiring group and this is the first (but hopefully not the last) collaboration with them. This production was first performed by Blue Apple in January of this year at Theatre Royal Winchester.

When four intrepid children and their faithful dog visit an aunt in Hampshire for the holidays, they are expecting a quiet time wandering the hills and observing the locals. Little do they know they are about to get embroiled in mystery-solving, crime-fighting and doing down some dastardly wrong’uns.
