The Hound of the Baskervilles

Playwright Arthur Conan Doyle, adapted by Steve Canny and John Nicholson Director Helena Gomm

Overview

Our recent production was The Hound of the Baskervilles, a gloriously funny makeover of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most celebrated Sherlock Holmes story. The audience loved it:

"Went to see Hound of the Baskervilles last night! What a brilliant production! Haven’t laughed so much for ages. Well done to all involved but especially the director and the three actors!"

When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his Dartmoor estate, with a look of terror etched on his face and the paw prints of a gigantic hound next to the body, the great detective, with Dr Watson in tow, is summoned to solve the mystery and investigate the ancient curse of the Hound of the Baskervilles.

Anne Waggott’s review for SceneOne+ (“a bonkers version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic tale – and it’s brilliant fun!”) can be seen here.

Jack Shaw’s write-up for Southern Arts Reviews is here. Jack’s take? “The three actors frequently broke the fourth wall in a play that was happily self-aware of its own silliness“.
